High School Wind
and Percussion Auditions

Who may audition:

Any student enrolled in a public, private, or home school setting grades 9-12 who performs on the following standard orchestral instruments:

Piccolo, Flute, Oboe, Clarinet, Bassoon, French Horn, Trumpet, Trombone, Tuba, or Percussion: Additional instruments may be added to the region orchestra if the instrumentation for the music being performed requires them. They will not be part of the TMEA all-state process but can be selected to and perform as a part of the TMEA region 18 orchestra.
Public school students should be entered by their orchestra or band director.
Private School students should be entered by their orchestra, band, or music director.
Home school students may be entered by a private teacher or parent.
Every student must have a TMEA member sponsor as a current membership number is required for the entry process. Every school director with students entered must be available to judge these auditions.
In the case of an emergency a proxy may be used. Proxies who are hired if paid, are paid by the person they are substituting for. Parents of home school students must provide a competent judge if they are not qualified themselves. If parents of home school students cannot provide a competent judge ( competency determined by the region chair) then an additional fee of not less than $75.00 must be paid to TMEA region 18 . This fee will allow the region chair to hire an addditional judge.

What they audition on:

Exerpts from the TMEA wind and percussion All-State Etudes. The experpts will be determined by the judging panels on the day of the audition.

Where they audition:

Anderson High School in the Austin school district. 8403 Mesa Drive, Austin, Texas 78759 . Directorns: Exit Mopac at Steck driving West on Steck until you interstect with Mesa go North (right) until you intersect with Cima -Serena, Turn righ at Cima Serena t into the faculty parking lot. Warm up will be in the cafeteria and auditions will be in the Fine Arts area.
There will be signs. There is a large amount of construction this year so it may be necessary for you to park on the street or in the student parking area on the south side of the school.

How much is the audition fee?

$10.00 per student. Please make all checks to Region 18 orchestra. Schools should play with one check.

Home school studens who do not send a sponsor/judge must pay an additional fee of $75.00 so that a judge may be hired.

How do students enter?

Your TMEA sponsor (normally your orchestra, band, or music teacher) must enter throught the TMEA.org website.
Scroll down to orchestra division and follow the directions. Its a simple process.
A current TMEA membership number is required for all students.
Students may be entered until Midnigh November 7th. No late entries will be accepted.

Home School and Private School Students?

These students are welcome to audition as well.
The rules for entry are the same. A TMEA member must sponsor the students entry.
Parents of home school students must provide a competent judge if they are not qualified themselves.
If a home school parent is unable to provide a suitable judge then they may submit an additional fee of $75.00 and Region 18 will hire a judge with that fee.
